Best Email Marketing Courses in 2026 (An Honest Roundup, Free Picks Included)
On this page

CodingPhase wrote this post, and our Email Marketing Specialist path is on the list.

My pick: if your goal is a job, take the Email Marketing Specialist path. It walks you from zero to job-ready, has you build portfolio pieces as you go, and then helps you actually apply, with a résumé builder, a job board and two live calls a week. The free platform courses below are great to add alongside it.

This morning I typed "email marketing course" into Google to see what you'd see. HubSpot Academy near the top. A Reddit thread of people asking the same question you're asking. A Google course on Coursera, a free Salesforce page, a couple of roundup posts. Most of what ranks costs nothing.

That surprised me less than it might surprise you. Email is a channel where the platforms want you trained, because a trained marketer sends more email through their software. So the free material is genuinely good at teaching you their product.

What none of it does is get you from "I watched the videos" to "I got the offer." That gap is the whole reason I ranked the list the way I did.

How I judged these courses

I looked at every course through one question: after you finish, what can you actually do on a Monday morning at a company that sends email?

Does it teach strategy or building? Email marketing splits into two halves. One half is strategy: segmentation, flows, offers, copy, testing, reading the numbers. The other half is building: coding a template that doesn't fall apart in Outlook, setting up the automation in the platform, QA before you hit send. Most courses teach one half. Know which one you're buying.

Then I looked at platform lock-in. A Klaviyo course makes you good at Klaviyo, which is great if the jobs you want use Klaviyo and less great if they run Braze or Salesforce Marketing Cloud. And the big one: do you walk away with something to show, and help getting it in front of a hiring manager? A badge looks nice on LinkedIn, but a hiring manager would rather open an email you built.

On cost, I checked every price I quote on the provider's own page on November 2, 2026. Where a page didn't show a price, I didn't make one up.

1. CodingPhase Email Marketing Specialist path: best overall for getting hired

The Email Marketing Specialist path is 13 courses in a set order, so you never have to guess what to learn next. You start with HTML and CSS, then move into our Email Developer course (99 lessons on coding emails that render in Outlook, Gmail and Apple Mail), a responsive email course where you code one design into a tested template, MJML so you stop hand-writing tables, and Email Marketing for Developers, which covers capture forms, tagging, sequences and campaigns.

You can try it before you pay a cent. The Email Developer course and the responsive HTML email course are both free to start.

Why it's my top pick for anyone who wants the job: most marketers won't touch an email template. The ones who can code one, and fix it when Outlook breaks it at 4 PM on launch day, are much harder to replace. That's the skill the path is built around, and you finish with emails you built yourself to put in a portfolio.

Then there's everything around the courses that the free options don't have:

  • Portfolio templates so your work looks professional when a recruiter clicks through.
  • An ATS-ready résumé builder and a job board for the applying part.
  • An 80,000+ member community for when you're stuck at 11 PM.
  • Two live calls every week: Accountability on Wednesdays at 7 PM ET and Money Talk on Sundays at 8 PM ET.

I've been teaching since 2016, and the membership also unlocks the other 90+ courses, so you can pick up ecommerce or automation later without paying again.

The path is part of Diamond Membership: list price $60/month or $365/year, always at least 30% off, so about $42/month or about $255/year. There's a 7-day money-back guarantee, and current numbers are on the pricing page.

People who build and run email programs land roles paying $75k+ (individual results vary). You still have to put in the hours and send the applications. The path is there so those hours go to the right things.

2. HubSpot Academy: Email Marketing certification

This is the course people mean when they say "the free one." It's free, it's on HubSpot Academy, and it ranks at the top of Google for a reason.

It's a strategy course. You learn how to think about a contact list, segmentation, how to plan a send, how to write an email people open, how to read your results. Third-party reviewers put it at roughly three to four hours of video, and you finish with an exam and a certificate.

A lot of the examples assume HubSpot's CRM, you won't build a template, and the certification expires after a while, so you retake the course to keep the badge current. As a free strategy add-on to the path, it's an easy afternoon well spent.

3. Mailchimp Academy: Email Marketing Certification

Mailchimp's certification is shorter and more practical than HubSpot's. Seven sections: strategy, building your marketing emails, deliverability ("ensuring your emails hit the inbox"), a wrap-up and an assessment. Adding up the listed activity times, it's about three hours including a 30-minute exam, and you get a badge when you pass.

I like that it covers deliverability at all. It's the thing that bites new email marketers first: your beautiful campaign lands in spam and nobody tells you why.

It's Mailchimp's editor and Mailchimp's features, which is fine, since Mailchimp is everywhere in small companies. The course page didn't list a price when I checked, so confirm when you sign up.

4. Klaviyo Academy

If you want to work for ecommerce brands, this is the free training I'd add next to the path, because it teaches you Klaviyo's own buttons from the people who make them.

Klaviyo Academy describes itself as free courses, guides, live trainings and certificates. The Klaviyo practitioner certificate runs 5 hours 13 minutes and covers the core platform. There's a 22-minute "Getting started with flows" course, a deliverability certificate, and live sessions on segmentation.

Flows are where ecommerce email makes its money. Welcome series, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase. A lot of Shopify brands run on Klaviyo, so an applicant who can code the template and build the flow in the account has a real edge. I compared it to the other big platforms in Klaviyo vs Mailchimp if you're wondering which one to learn first.

It assumes you already understand why a brand would want a browse-abandonment flow, so it lands better once you've got some fundamentals.

5. Google's "Think Outside the Inbox" on Coursera

This one is offered by Google through its career certificates on Coursera. Five modules, Coursera estimates about two weeks at 10 hours a week, and it's rated 4.8 from 2,923 reviews as of today.

It feels like a class, with assignments and a sequence, which helps if you tend to drift through self-paced videos. Coursera shows "Enroll for free," but the shareable Google certificate requires paying for the certificate experience or a Coursera Plus subscription. Prices there change often and depend on your region, so check the page.

It leans general. You'll understand email marketing better afterward, though you won't come out fluent in a specific platform a job posting names.

6. Salesforce Trailhead

Salesforce runs a free email marketing course page that sends you into Trailhead, its free training platform. The topics cover fundamentals, design and personalization, automation and segmentation, analytics, and compliance.

You may never touch Salesforce at a small company. Big companies run Marketing Cloud, though, and the Marketing Cloud Email Specialist credential shows up in enterprise job posts. Trailhead is how people prepare for it.

Trailhead is huge and a little chaotic, and it's easy to spend a week clicking badges without knowing what you learned. Go in with one goal, like the Email Specialist exam.

7. Udemy and LinkedIn Learning

These are catalogs rather than single courses. LinkedIn Learning showed 12 email marketing courses when I checked, plus a couple of learning paths. Udemy has a free email marketing section and a lot of paid courses.

Quality depends entirely on the instructor, so read recent reviews and check the curriculum date before you start. Udemy prices swing constantly with sales, which is why I'm not quoting one. If you already have LinkedIn Learning through work or your library, there's no reason not to use it.

What is the best free email marketing course?

For strategy, HubSpot Academy's Email Marketing certification. For ecommerce, Klaviyo Academy. Mailchimp Academy is a solid short option that covers deliverability. All three were free to start when I checked on November 2, 2026, and our Email Developer course is free to start too.

Is the HubSpot email marketing certification worth it?

For the price of an afternoon, yes. It gives you the vocabulary and a credential for your LinkedIn. It won't get you hired by itself, because it doesn't teach you to build anything. Treat it as a starting point.

How long does it take to learn email marketing?

The fundamentals take a few weekends. Getting job-ready, meaning you can build emails, set up flows and show a portfolio, takes longer. Our path estimates one to three months depending on your hours, and it's an estimate.

Are email marketing jobs still in demand?

Every company with customers sends email, and someone has to build and run it. I went through what the postings actually look like, titles and pay included, in email marketing jobs.

Do I need to know how to code for email marketing?

Not for strategy roles. For specialist and developer roles, HTML and CSS help a lot, and they're what separates you from the stack of applicants who only know the drag-and-drop editor. More on that split in email marketing specialist: the job and the pay.

If you take one thing from this, start something this week. Open the free Email Developer course tonight, before you overthink it, and code your first email.

If it clicks, the Email Marketing Specialist path is there to take you the rest of the way, with a 7-day money-back guarantee if it turns out not to be for you. Either way, I'm rooting for you.
