I became interested in programming in April 2016 and started learning web development in early 2017 on other platforms like FreeCodeCamp and teamtreehouse.com. While these platforms helped (or didn’t help) me learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript, I was still lacking direction, and a lot of the projects  I built afterwards weren't relevant to the needs of a business.

I eventually discovered the CodingPhase YouTube channel sometime in 2017 where I learned about becoming job-ready, the importance of a portfolio, and the skills and tools that employers value. I feel like the guidance and communication I received from Joe at the time assisted with getting my first job managing Wordpress websites at a startup in early 2018. By then, I had already upgraded from the monthly to the lifetime membership at codingphase.com.

Choosing a tech stack or ecosystem early on can be overwhelming given the many choices available. I would continue taking courses at CodingPhase to learn backend development, and I credit Joe for encouraging me to focus on PHP and Laravel. This eventually led to my second job working with a team doing full-stack development in 2019 with PHP/Laravel/Vue. Now I’m on my third job, still heavily using PHP and Laravel, but working remotely.

I also want to acknowledge the value of the email development courses. Throughout my career, I haven't encountered many content creators discussing HTML emails. While not the most glamorous part of web development, email development is crucial for businesses, and I've experienced this firsthand. During my first job, I worked with SendGrid emails. In my second job, one of my first tasks was to create an HTML email from scratch, which I was able to accomplish thanks to another course on codingphase.com, and I would later introduce the team there to HTML email frameworks to further increase our productivity. While I’m not currently doing email development at my third job, I still occasionally collaborate with another team that focuses on engagement emails.

I'm several years into my career now, but I still follow Joe's content. I value his opinions on trends, relevant skills, and career planning, all of which I feel will help set me up for success, regardless of what’s happening in the tech industry.
Regards,
Brandon
